چکیده

This letter investigates the multiple routes transmitted epidemic process on multiplex networks. We propose detailed theoretical analysis that allows us to accurately calculate the epidemic threshold and outbreak size. It is found that the epidemic can spread across the multiplex network even if all the network layers are well below their respective epidemic thresholds. Strong positive degree-degree correlation of nodes in multiplex network could lead to a much lower epidemic threshold and a relatively smaller outbreak size. However, the average similarity of neighbors from different layers of nodes has no obvious effect on the epidemic threshold and outbreak size. Keyword. Parasite spreading in spatial ecological multiplex networks

Network ecology is a rising field of quantitative biology representing ecosystems as complex networks. A suitable example is parasite spreading: several parasites may be transmitted among their hosts through different mechanisms, each one giving rise to a network of interactions. Modelling these networked, ecological interactions at the same time is still an open challenge. We present a novel s...

Epidemics in Partially Overlapped Multiplex Networks

Many real networks exhibit a layered structure in which links in each layer reflect the function of nodes on different environments. These multiple types of links are usually represented by a multiplex network in which each layer has a different topology. In real-world networks, however, not all nodes are present on every layer. To generate a more realistic scenario, we use a generalized multip...

Pair-level approximations to the spatio-temporal dynamics of epidemics on asymmetric contact networks.

The process of infection during an epidemic can be envisaged as being transmitted via a network of routes represented by a contact network. Most differential equation models of epidemics are mean-field models. These contain none of the underlying spatial structure of the contact network. By extending the mean-field models to pair-level, some of the spatial structure can be contained in the mode...

On the dynamical interplay between awareness and epidemic spreading in multiplex networks

We present the analysis of the interrelation between two processes accounting for the spreading of an epidemics, and the information awareness to prevent its infection, on top of multiplex networks. This scenario is representative of an epidemic process spreading on a network of persistent real contacts, and a cyclic information awareness process diffusing in the network of virtual social conta...

Global behavior of epidemic transmission on heterogeneous networks via two distinct routes

In the study of epidemic spreading two natural questions are: whether the spreading of epidemics on heterogenous networks have multiple routes, and whether the spreading of an epidemic is a local or global behavior? In this paper, we answer the above two questions by studying the SIS model on heterogenous networks, and give the global conditions for the endemic state when two distinct routes wi...
